"PERSON PERCEPTION"

PERSON PERCEPTION: It is the study of the cognitive processes involved in categorizing people and their behavior, forming inferences about their qualities and the causes for their action, arriving at attributions that explain behavior, and making predictions about what people are like and likely to do.

HOW WE FORM IMPRESSION?

Person perception is a subjective process, that every person is unique in there own way and every person perception is different, it is affected by a number of variables.
Factors that can influence the impressions you form of other people include the characteristics of the person you are observing, the context of the situation, your own personal traits, and your past experiences.

People often form impression of others very quickly, with only limited amount of information. This allow us to make snap judgements and decisions, but it can also lead to biased or stereotyped perceptions of other people. Let's take the example from the  day to day life. Imagine that you are getting on a bus. There are only two seats available. One is next to a petite, elderly woman; the other is next to a burly, grim-faced man. Based on your immediate impression, you sit next to the elderly woman, who unfortunately turns out to be quite skilled at picking pockets. Because your perception immediately judged the woman as harmless and man as threatening, leading to the loss of your wallet. Sometimes person perception can be useful but it can also lead to these kind of misadjustments.

Physical cues can also play an important role. If you see a woman dressed in a professional-looking suit, you might immediately assume that she works in a formal setting, perhaps at a law firm or bank. The salience of the information we perceive is also important. Generally, we tend to focus on the most obvious points rather than noting background information.
Relating perception to our everyday life might be easier than one might think, the way we view the world and everything around us has a direct effect on our thoughts, actions, and behavior. It helps us relate things to one another, and be able to recognize situations, objects, and patterns.

CONCLUSION:
Perception is the process by which people organize and obtain meaning from the stimuli they receive from the environment. It might not be the reality, its only the meaning that a person gives to the environment. Always remember Every person perception is different, if someone misunderstands you don't worry it's his/her perception but it is important to have a knowledge on perception. "What people in the world think of you is really none of your bussiness". Perceive the person but don't judge the person very quickly.
